The late Noel Murphy The people of Rathdrum are in shock following the sudden and tragic death of Noel Murphy. From Parnell Park in the town, the 38 year old single man died following an accident in his home. Tributes have been paid to Noel and he has been described as a lovely young man. A painter by trade, he was extremely popular. He was a keen sportsman and was heavily involved with hurling, football and soccer. He was a brilliant under age player and had played on the junior and intermediate teams many time in his younger days. He was also involved in schools football and was a key member of Avondale Community College team while he was a student there. His remains were removed to St mary's and St Michael's Church in Rathdrum were a huge crowd gathered to pay their last respects. One of the largest gatherings attended the church again on the morning of the funeral mass. A guard of honour was provided by members of Avondale GAA Club and Avonmore Soccer Club and they accompanied him as he set our on his final journey to the local cemetery where he was laid to rest. Noel is survived by his heartbroken parents, Anne and Laurence and his sisters Samantha and Tina. Courtesy of The Wicklow People 08 March 2007
