The late Frank Darcy The death occurred of well known Bray GAA personality Frank Darcy. At a time when District Boards wielded a lot of power in Wicklow Frank was Chairman of the North District. He was also a former treasurer of the Bray Emmets club. As a player he was the goalkeeper on the Bray Emmets team that won their only Senior Hurling Championship title in 1952. Emmets defeated Avondale that day by 4-5 to 2-3 in the final played in the old Pearse Park in the Wexford road in Arklow. He was also a County Minor Hurling Selector in the late 1950's and early 1960's. A native of Passage East, Co. Waterford, Frank lived in Bray for almost 60 years. He worked for many years in the local Post Office before being transferred to the GPO. Frank was predeceased by his wife Brenda (nee Sherwin) and is survived by sons John, Martin, Frank and daughter Clare; brother Tom and sister Mary. For the record the Bray Emmets team that won that final on November 8 1952 lined out as follows: Frank Darcy; Dave Howick, Gerry Barry, Ned Lawlor; Tom Gavin, Joe Butler, Seamus Quigley; Mick Swyer, Pat Burke; Brian Glynn, Paddy Delaney, Pat O'Brien; John Evans, Jimmy Jordan and Ned Maher.
