The selection process involved in appointing a new Wicklow senior hurling manager was defended at the most recent county board meeting.

Former Wicklow hurler Michael Neary who writes a weekly piece in the Wicklow People slated the five-man committee that was appointed to find a success to Casey O'Brien.

The committee put forward former Wexford All-Ireland winner Martin Storey and he was ratified last Monday night.

However, Neary stated that none of the five-man selection committee had managerial experience at inter-county level.

However, Dr Brendan Cuddihy who was part of the committee has strongly condemned Neary's comments.

"It was stated that none of the people on the panel had managerial experience," said Cuddihy. "I don't know what I've been doing for the last 20 years.

"Brian Cody was appointed by three people who had no experience. Maybe, Mr Neary might go down and advise Kilkenny where they are going wrong."
