Aughrim's new stand nears completion

July 16, 2015

Westmeath travelled to Aughrim to take on Wicklow in the Leinster MFC.

The fantastic new stand at the Wicklow county grounds is almost complete.

Those who attended last weekend's local championship games in Aughrim will have seen the new €1.4m stand, which should be ready for use before the end of the month.

The covered stand will be able to seat 1,500 spectators and county chairman Martin Coleman is looking forward to unveiling it:

"It was something that was badly lacking in our county ground and from now on the weather won't affect people coming to our games," he states in The Wicklow People.

"It's a fine job and a lot of work went into it. It's also fit for purpose in that you could lose the run of yourself and build something enormous but the seating that continues along the sides is exactly the same profile as what's in the stand so the stand can be extended in years to come if needs be.

"Originally we were hoping to have it ready for our county finals but it's looking like it'll be ready for our games the weekend after next."
