Ace attacker Seanie Furlong has departed the Wicklow senior football panel.

Manager Johnny Magee confirms that the Kiltegan clubman quit the squad due to family commitments. The defection comes as a major blow to the Garden County, who have endured a very disappointing national league Division Four campaign to date.

"At this stage in Seanie's life, he cannot commit to the level required to play intercounty football," Magee told The Wicklow People. "There's nothing more to it. We have to respect his wishes.

"Seanie's a massive loss to the panel but he'd be a big loss to any panel. It's very bad timing but we just have to get on with it. It opens the door now for someone else to step forward and stake a claim.

"The door will never be closed for Seanie or Leighton [Glynn] of anyone. County football requires a massive commitment and unfortunately Seanie can't offer that commitment right now. He leaves with my best wishes."
