Glynn a doubt for International Rules test

A thumb injury has cast a doubt over Leighton Glynn's participation in the International Rules Series.

The 32-year-old  is currently involved with Paul Earley's extended squad and also faces the prospect of having to sit out Rathnew's Leinster Club SFC campaign after fracturing his thumb in Glenealy's Wicklow SHC final defeat 11 days ago.

He played in last Sunday's football success against medical advice and, speaking to The Irish Daily Star, he revealed he is due to meet a surgeon in Dundrum tomorrow: "Hopefully it's what I want to hear. If not, I'll just have to step aside.

"I didn't listen to them (doctors) at the weekend. I probably shouldn't have played. If I need to get the op I'm going to have to get it.

"It's not a thing you want to be messing about with. It could affect you later on. I'm surprised it wasn't sorer. I got a few taps on it and I was tackling on it. I didn't have to mind it that much.

"It is fractured but it is probably not as bad as we expected.

"Hopefully it will be a case of letting it knit back together rather than surgery."

The talented Wicklow dual star recently decided to quit inter-county football in favour of hurling for 2015 and bad news for new manager Johnny Magee is that he is unlikely to do a u-turn on that call.

"I wanted to give it a year with the hurlers. I had missed out on a lot of hurling.

"I haven't that many years left in inter-county hurling. You just can't do both. I enjoy hurling when I'm playing it so I said I'd give it a year.

"Johnny was sound about it. It didn't matter who it was.

"Even if Harry (Murphy) was still over it I said to Harry I wouldn't be available. I hope Johnny does well.

"He's very enthusiastic and has a good team behind him."
