Wicklow SHC final: Bray bridge 64-year gap

October 06, 2014

Bray Emmets 2-9
Glenealy 1-11

Bray Emmets won their first Wicklow SHC title since 1952 after staging a late comeback to dethrone Glenealy at Aughrim yesterday.

The holders looked to be on course for their expected victory when they led by 1-10 to 2-4 entering the final quarter against a Bray team that had their captain and full back Peter Kiely sent off. But with county star Christy Moorehouse in inspirational form, the town side finished with a flourish to register a famous victory.

Bray had led by 2-4 to 0-4 at the break thanks to goals from Moorehouse and Mikey Lee, but Glenealy turned the game on its head after the restart when Enan Glynn netted and his brother Leighton struck a series of frees. However, Bray wrestled back control in the closing stages.
