Ballymanus club notes

September 15, 2014

The intermediates booked their place in the 2014 intermediate championship final with a hard earned two point win over Dunlavin in Aughrim last weekend. What odds would you got on that at the start of the year walking out of Aughrim after being walloped by Aughrim in our championship opener.  Better still, what odds would have got on the lads doing it scoring only five times in the semi against high flyers Dunlavin, and not scoring in the second half at all? Well that's where we find ourselves now, and that's what happened. The lads got off to a great start on Saturday, going three points to no score up in the opening ten minutes, playing some lovely football on the way. Dunlavin then had their purple patch, pegging it back to a single point, but a point and a whopper of a goal from Kevin had us back in the ascendency again. Brendan pulled off a super save just before half time, and at the break we were up 1-4 to 2pts. In the second half, Dunlavin had the wind in their backs, however the lads defended stoutly, restricting them to three points, two frees and a sideline. Amazingly, despite creating some chances, we never added to our half time score, but held out for a two point victory on a scoreline 1-4 to 5pts. Heart, honesty, and a never say die attitude from all the lads got us over the line in this one, however the lads will know there is a lot of work to be done in the next few weeks if we are to overturn neighbours Aughrim in the final. There was no lotto jackpot winner for the draw held Monday 8th. The numbers drawn were 7,11,12,22. Match three winners were: Jimmy Cullen, Chris Killelea, John Dillon, Margaret Ovington, Kathleen Byrne, M. Carty, Alison, Zoe & Becky, John O'Reilly, Pat Teigh, Joey & Scoby. Finally, in the members draw for the All Ireland recently, Chrissie Carthy won two tickets for the hurling All Ireland and Sean O'Neill won one. John Harmon won two tickets for the All Ireland Football final, and Kevin Byrne (gap) won one.
