Doyle: Wicklow needs a full-time hurling officer

August 14, 2014
Jim Bob Doyle is adamant that Wicklow needs to hire a full-time hurling officer.

After five years in the job, the Carnew man will himself step down as hurling officer at the end of 2014. He says the Garden County cannot progress unless they have a full-time man in place:

"Every time that I mention about a full-time hurling officer I'm told we have five coaches, but we don't," he stresses in The Wicklow People.

"We have five coaches but their time is divided with football. You have to have one person looking after the hurling in Wicklow. I've been banging on that drum for a while now.

"If the County Board would just agree to give it a go. Hire a full-time hurling officer for three years and if we don't win a Minor B or a Christy Ring after the three years then go back to the drawing board.

"But give it a chance. It kills me when I see young lads ho love playing for Wicklow but who won't get the chance to achieve their goals because the structures are wrong."
