Murphy: Avondale will be tough to beat
June 06, 2013
Glenealy manager Seamus Murphy says the holders face a tough SHC opener.
The defending champions open the defence of their county title against Avondale at the county grounds on Saturday evening and Murphy believes it's going to be a difficult assignment for his players.
"It's a tough opener, to be honest," the Glenealy boss says in The Wicklow People.
"With the Christy Ring just finished up, we've only had a short time to get all the lads back and we've been tricking around in the Spring League with two teams sort of. And we have injuries from last year as well.
"From my experience since I came to Glenealy in 2010, Avondale are a club that have been making steady progress and they have a strong tradition of hurling down there.
"We only managed a draw against them last year in the early part of the championship and then they lost Eamonn Kearns for the last 20 minutes of the second game.
"As well as that, they've got that bit of a run in the Leinster League and they'll have built up a head of steam, so they'll be looking forward to this game."
