The 2013 Wicklow SHC gets up and running this weekend with the champions in action.

There is a double-header at Aughrim on Saturday evening - Arklow Rocks V Bray Emmets at 5:30 and Avondale V Glenealy at 7:00.

Arklow have been making good strides at juvenile level in recent times, while Bray have been the dominant force at minor level for seven seasons or so.

Thus, the curtain-raiser is a battle of two emerging forces but Bray will be fancied to take the points as they are at a more advanced stage on their learning curve and have county seniors like John Henderson, Mikey Lee, Eoin Mason and Christy Moorhouse at their disposal.

Holders Glenealy are starting their bid for a first-ever four-in-a-row and they will be fancied to see off Avondale.

But Avondale have also been making impressive progress at all grades from U12 right through to senior and their good run in the Leinster club league will fill them with confidence. Tweet
