Selector Murray welcomes championship football
May 23, 2013
Wicklow selector Mick Murray loves nothing better than a bit of championship football.
The Garden County can put their league woes behind them when they entertain Longford in Aughrim on Sunday and Murray notes in The Wicklow People:
"Everyone loves championship football, drier ground, longer evenings. Fast summer football is great to watch and the footballers themselves always love championship football.
"Last year, we targeted the league. It was what Harry wanted and we got that.
"This year our target was just to stay up in Division Three and as a result I don't think we worked as hard weights-wise or had the same intensity or desire for the league. That's why we're heading for Division Four now.
"But championship ahead now and we have new impetus so hopefully it goes well on Sunday."
