Derry up next for hurlers

May 10, 2012

Wicklow hurling manager Casey O"Brien
Derry visit Arklow in the next round of the Christy Ring Cup this weekend.

Fresh from their sensational victory over holders Kerry in the first round at the same venue last weekend, the Garden County host the Oak Leafers at 2pm on Saturday.

Casey O'Brien's charges have a wonderful record against Derry - beating them three times in total last year - but they will have to be on their guard as the northerners are sure to be gunning for revenge.

But home advantage should prove decisive for high-flying Wicklow, who were beaten in the final of last year's second-tier hurling championship and have real aspirations of going one better in 2012.

Even if they lose on Saturday, the hosts will get a second bite of the cherry via the back-door, but it's unlikely they'll need to avail of this route.
