Wicklow County Board Chairman Mick Hagan
Wicklow chairman Mick Hagan has praised the Garden County for their win over Kerry.

Reflecting on the hurlers' stunning 2-20 to 2-15 defeat of holders Kerry in the Christy Ring Cup at Arklow last weekend, Hagan said in The Wicklow People:

"The win was morale-boosting for the team and the county and shows the steady progress being made by the hurlers since manager Casey O'Brien and selectors Gerry Murray, Brian Gleeson and Jim Bob Doyle were appointed.

"We have won two national hurling league titles in successive years, we reached the final of the Christy Ring Cup last year, while this year we retained our status in Division 2A of the league.

"Last weekend's display was a marvellous all-round team performance and I must compliment everyone involved, including team management and backroom staff, for their work and effort not just for this game but over the last few months.

"Everyone deserves credit for the self-belief that has been instilled in this team and we are now good enough to compete with the best."
