Wicklow dished out a 30-point mauling to Kilkenny in their opening Allianz League game at Freshford yesterday.

Baltinglass clubman and half forward Joe Kelly scored 1-7 in a man of the match performance, while full forward Seanie Furlong also chipped in with 1-5. The game was over as a contest at half-time, by which stage the Garden County had opened up a 3-11 to 1-1 lead with all six of their starting forwards finding the target.

Kilkenny were gifted a goal in the 30th minute when a poor kick-out by goalkeeper John Flynn let James Culleton in for a three-pointer.

It continued to be one-way traffic in the second half and Kilkenny's misery was complete when JJ Dunphy was sent off on a second yellow card in the closing stages. Tweet
