On Tuesday January 31st there is no training in Colaiste Chraobh Abhann as the Sports Hall is unavailable to us. We are holding our Juvenile Presentation Night on Tuesday 31st in Kilcoole Golf Club starting at 7 o'clock. What a night it promises to be as we celebrate what was a very eventful season in 2011.
We had over 30 girls in our Grasshoppers Club aged 4-7, our U8, 9 and 10 players took part in Dublin Go Games Blitzes while the U8 and U10 players were active in Wicklow Go Games as well. Our U11s took part in the Dublin Blitz and mini-League series and the U12s played in the Wicklow Blitz and mini-League. Our U13s improved with every game and ended the season as Shield winners, the U15s improved with every outing and finished the season with a brilliant performance in the Shield Final, the U17s finished their season as 'B' Champions, repeating what they had done the previous season as U16s.
Looking forward to seeing you all there - refreshments will be served! Then on Thursday February 2nd we are having a Table Quiz in Byrnes Mill Room starting at 8.30 - our first fundraiser of the year - Raffle and lots of Prizes! Please support!
And now something for you to think about....proposed changes to Camogie's playing rules. These come up for discussion at Annual Congress in March - if passed they become law for the 2013 season. Let us know what you think - mail our [email protected] or post your views on our Club Facebook page. So here we go......8 subs to be allowed in League games at all levels, no need to tape the metal band on your hurley, the goalkeeper's hurley may not be bigger than 18cm and she cannot use it if she goes outfield to take a free /penalty, the goalkeeper is the only player who can use this bigger hurley to defend a penalty, if you go down when all that's wrong is that you've lost the ball!! - of course you wouldn't -....the opposing team retains possession and gets an indirect free, interfere with an opponent's faceguard and you'll see Red, its also Red if you spit - perish the thought! - at an opponent or official, lifting the sliotar and balancing it on the hurley before striking when taking a free is a foul and finally, if you can put the sliotar over the crossbar from a sideline ball you will be rewarded with 2 points! These are the main proposed changes - what do you think?
