Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney Club Notes

August 31, 2010
AGB secured a semi-final place in the Keating Cup with a hard fought win over Carnew in Annacurra last Thursday night. Score: AGB 2-10 Carnew 1-06. AGB were wasteful early on, losing plenty of ball on the attack & were lucky two early goal chances went a begging for Carnew, mainly thanks to some scramble defending & a fine save from Keith Manley. However AGB soon settled down & with their defence on top worked some fine scores before the half. The most important being an Andy Brennan goal whereas P Gleeson's point was the most impressive. Unfortunately Arklow lost influential forward Niall Mullet early on to a knee injury, but lead at halfway
point 1-5 to 0-3. In the second half, the seasiders defence continued to strangle the Carnew
forward line, with Tyrrell & O'Donoghue both having fine games. The lead was
stretched further when O'Donoghue pounced to punch to the net from a rebound off
Carnew's upright. Carnew upped the tempo in the last quarter of the match and
got a fine goal late on, however late points by Arklow rubber stamped their
unassailable lead. Team: K. Manley, A Byrne, P. Egan, J. Tyrrell, P. O'Donoghue, C. Hyland, M. Kavanagh, B. Gatenby, M. Ivanoff, P. Glesson, A. McBride, D. O'Harte, P. Healy, A.
Brennan, N. Mullet. Subs: S. Hurley, B. Manley, D. O'Keeffe, M. Murphy.

The U14 Boys were back in training last week after a two week, they boys are straight back into action with two home games on Monday and Wednesday against Eire Og and An Tocher, check arklowgaa.ie for results and reports. Our U8 Boys travel to Gorey, next Saturday to take part in an all day blitz, travel details to be confirmed by text and all support on the day would be much appreciated. U14 Girls played in Rathnew on Tues 24th August, our girls played well in this game, continually supporting one another, we must remember Rathnew are a new team at this age group and gave a good account of themselves, showing that they already have loads of potential. In the 1st half our full forward notched up a tally of 1-6 great scores in this half from Sarah, Aisling, Marsha, Georgina. The second half saw Derbhla, Clionadh, Molly and Katie were great marksmen for their team Aoife Forde played out of her skin and as always Paula worked hard for her team as did Caoimhe and Joy Earls made her mark the game, and well done to Emma who kept on working right up to end, yet again a great team effort girls .
A big thank you to the U14 Girls and Boys who helped put on a football skills display for students from Germany, Bulgaria and Italy, last Wednesday. The group of students are currently visiting Arklow as part of a parish exchange programme, and were shown various basic footballing skills and invited to take part in drills.
U12 boys had a challenge game away to Foxrock our boys were a little rusty starting off as it has been so long since we got a game. However when they got going they remembered what to do and they went on to win this encounter 5-13 to 3-5. This score line doesn't reflect the game with Foxrock giving us a tough and enjoyable match. Tom M saved us many a time between the posts in the 1st half. Kyle had a great game in the backs and good scores came from Calem, Ross, Tiernan Mc, Tom M, Ronan and Gary, well done to all of you. Providing a great display of football were Cathal and Cal and Tom J and Conor worked in the corner right to the end as always the boys played with great team spirit good work with more to do. Our Minors played a challenge game last Friday V Kilmacud Crokes B team. After an entertaining and very useful game Kilmacud won by 3-12 to 4-7. We had excellent performances from Mark Doyle, Eamonn Quirke, Mark Murphy, Darren O'Connor and Paidi Kellegher. We now await the knock out stages of our championship, details of which will be known this week.
