Micko keeps Wicklow guessing

Mick O'Dwyer
Wicklow must wait another 10 days to find out whether Mick O'Dwyer will be continuing as their senior football manager.

At their meeting last night, the Wicklow county board acceded to O'Dwyer's request for another 10 days to make up his mind. The 74-year-old's future has been at the centre of intense speculation in recent weeks with his name linked to a host of counties, including Limerick, Galway, Mayo and Laois. He is one of five nominees for the vacancy in Mayo.

Wicklow chairman Andy O'Brien informed delegates that members of the executive had met O'Dwyer on two occasions and he expressed an interest in being reappointed. O'Brien added, however, that O'Dwyer had contacted them again over the weekend and asked to be given another 10 days and he would then come back to them with an answer.

In the event of O'Dwyer not continuing in the role, O'Brien and his fellow officers were given the go-ahead to starting putting in place a new management team without having to call another meeting.
