All-Ireland MHC 'B' roundup

August 08, 2010
Meath, Roscommon, Westmeath and Kildare progressed to the last four of the ESB All-Ireland minor 'B' hurling championship following victories on Saturday.

Meath walloped Mayo by 6-28 to 0-2 at Pairc Tailteann in one of the most one-sided games you are ever likely to see. James Toher top-scored with 2-4, while Willie McGrath, Michael Hennessy and Adam Gannon were also among the goals. The Royals led by 4-13 to 0-0 at half-time.

Roscommon fended off a late rally from beaten Ulster finalists Armagh to win by 2-15 to 1-13. With Jamie Lawlor and Cillian Egan to the fore, the Rossies led by 10 points entering the final quarter, but a late rally led by full forward Conor Corvan saw the Orchard County cut the lead to five at the finish.

The meeting of Westmeath and Wicklow in Arklow was another painfully one-sided affair which ended in a 7-26 to 0-7 victory for the visitors. Niall O'Brien and Enda Kincaid amassed 6-8 between them as the Lake County coasted to facile win. The game was already over as a contest at half-time with Pat O'Brien's side ahead by 3-14 to 0-3.

The game of the day was in Newbridge where Kildare knocked out reigning champions Kerry with a 2-24 to 4-17 victory after extra-time. Goals from Daniel Casey and Shane Dunne gave Kerry an early lead before Kildare hit 1-5 without reply to lead by 2-11 to 2-6 at the interval.

The Kingdom battled back in the second half to force extra-time and looked set for victory when Padraig Boyle's goal put them ahead in the additional period. But four unanswered points, including the winner from a Conor Kenny '65, handed the Lilywhites the spoils.
