Donard/Glen football notes
March 15, 2010
The second weekend in March and every able bodied man and woman in the area was in action.
First team to play was our camogie team on Monday week last in Donard where they played a friendly against Trim (Co. Meath).
Next up were our senior footballers on Friday night in Donard where they beat old rivals Tinahely in round one of the Senior League. This fixture has always been a value for money game and Friday night in Donard in Sub Zero temperatures wan no exception. Our lads were short a few of last years championship team but it seemed to make no difference. Very young Dan Mann in the goals played a blinder and David Rodgers at full forward was top scorer with 2 goals and 2 points. Ref Wm. Crawl red carded 3 Tinahely players in the second half and it helped our lads to grab full League points.
Sunday morning in Kiltegan our senior camogie team lost to the locals in the league.
At the same time in Dunlavin the Parish Minor Team lost to Luke O‚Tooles in the Minor Football league. Our senior Goalie Dan Mann, Clifford Grace and Alan Daly represented our side of the parish on the team.
Sunday evening in Donard our ladies football team lost to St. Pat‚s in the junior league. This was a cracker of a game that our ladies could have won. Last week we were ten short of our championship winning team, this week we were only short six of that team. Look out next week we may have a full team.
Our top handballer at the moment Gerry McGrath beat Pat Kelly from Bray last week in the Leinster Emerald Masters 40 X 20 final. He will play Joe Neary from Mayo in the All Ireland semi final in Coolboy on Saturday next at 2.00pm.
Back to ladies football last week Baltinglass Vocational School beat St. Kevin‚s Vocational school in the county senior final. J. Handbidge was our only player on the winning team. A. Kelly, C. Byrne, S. Reid, N. Whelan, L. Allen, S. Mills R. Byrne and S. Wilson were on the losing panel.
Donard-Glen Juvenile GAA training is on Saturday morning from 11 - 12 o'clock in the football field. All children aged 4 years and upwards welcome. For further information contact Helen 087-6470422
