Disciplinary amendments approved
October 04, 2008
The one yellow card and you are off motion was passed at the GAA's Special Congress but the move to change the U21 championship to U20 was rejected.
Delegates favoured the new disciplinary changes which will result in fouls that are deemed to be highly disruptive leading to immediate yellow cards, with the players carded then no longer taking any part in the game but a replacement allowed to take his place.
The rule changes were supposed to be implemented for three years but GAA President Nickey Brennan made an amendment that they would only apply to the subsidiary competitions in January (O'Byrne Cup, FBD FL, McKenna Cup, Waterford Crystal HL) and the national leagues.
The changes will then be discussed at Congress before they are introduced in next year's championships, at which stage ammendments could be made.
A proposal to change the age limit for U21 competitions to U2O was not accepted but most of the proposals regarding player burnout were passed.
