Kilcoole camogie news

September 29, 2008
At the week-end we had the return leg of our Camogie exchange with the Monaghan County team. This proved to be a memorable event for all who took part and shows that there is more to Camogie than what happens on the field! We welcomed our guests to Co Wicklow on Friday evening with a Reception in the Eire Og Clubhouse in Greystones before our host families left with their 'adopted' children! We can't be too sure how many hours of sleep ensued...but we regrouped at our pitch for an Aoife Grennan led Coaching Clinic on Saturday morning at 10.30, which took us to Lunch-time. Everybody worked hard with coaches Nicky, Niamh, Martina, Fintan and Conor helped by visitors Marie, Roisin and Rosita. A horde of cooks led by Assumpta and Joanne, fed the masses under a glorious delayed mid-Summer Sun with a BBQ which went down a treat. At this stage we were joined by parents who had traveled from Monaghan - good timing! The afternoon's activities included Rounders and a Camogie match as well as an impromptu/unscheduled dip in the Irish Sea.... After a Dinner break with the host families, we met for a Quiz and Karaoke session in Newtown GAA's Clubhouse. We discovered here that competitiveness in sport transfers easily to off the pitch activity...and singing comes naturally (?) to some... With great difficulty, the tired bodies made their way to Charlesland Recreation Park at 9.45 am on Sunday. Fionnuala Britton was there to met us and led a Camogie relevant Athletics session for Kilcoole and Monaghan players where her theme was 'Components of Sport'. Una and Niamh were her assistants. Fionnuala was challenged to a Run by members of the Monaghan delegation. When they discoved that her warm-up would consist of at least 7 laps, they settled for a 100m dash!! A 6-a-side Tournament followed on th Astro-turf and we adjourned for lunch in Charlesland to bring the event to an end.  Many thanks to everbody who helped make this an occasion to remember - with special thanks to Fionnuala Britton and our colleagues in Eire Og and Newtown GAA Clubs. Action on the field is confined to Shield matches at the moment and we have finished Outdoor Training.Well done to the girls who played on the County U15 team on Saturday - Jessica Morrissey,Celina O'Toole, Caressa O'Toole and Holly Neary.  Next up is the trip to Glasgow next week-end for the Tir Chonaill Gaels Ladies' Gaelic Games Festival.
