Kilbride GAA Notes

September 22, 2008
It wasn't to be.  The Intermediates went out of the championship last Friday night after a tough, spirited match against Carnew.  The final score line of 3:9 to 0:10 was not a true reflection of this highly entertaining match. The lads missed some relatively easy early scores and paid the price at the other end conceded two soft goals in the first half.  Going in at half time 3 points down, having conceded two goals.  When you start chasing a game, the opposition can really punish the open space.  We needed to win and win by an unknown margin, thus we were chasing the game from the beginning.  Credit to Carnew, they played some good possession football and we wish them the best in the championship semis.  We play Knockananna in the relegation semi final.  It turned out that we needed to beat Carnew by 7 points to progress, which was unlikely to happen against the leaders of Division One.  We picked up 4 points from a possible 10, and our loss to Eire Og in Roundwood was a killer blow to our chances of progress, especially when the team deserved the points on that day.  It's been an encouraging season back in Intermediate however the sight of two subs throughout the campaign is worrying, if I recall we had 15 subs for the Junior A final last year &..Maybe the young lads are too busy modifying their Fiat Punto's!!  Probably! The following Saturday the lads turned up for the All Ireland Sevens in Templeougue, we were never in any condition to play less than 14 hours after a tough championship match.  One note, we did play the winners of the event Arran Islands in the group stage and young Alan Jones picked up a nasty injury from Nuala Haughian, he should be available for the Under 12's next Friday!! One team in the club who will be in a Semi Final this year is our Under 12's, they take on Avondale in Roundwood this Friday at 7.30PM under lights, please make a special effort to support the wee Kilbride men, managed by Michael Reneghan, Pat Fitzsimon's and Joe Dillion. The Junior C team play Sunday in the QF of the championship v Tinahely at 6.30PM in Baltinglass.
