Glenealy will be denied Leinster place

September 19, 2008
It looks as if there will be no place in the Leinster Club Championship for Glenealy who were crowned Wicklow Intermediate champions because of being regarded as second string. Being a weaker county in hurling, Wicklow are represented in the Leinster Junior competition by the Intermediate winners but Glenealy cannot participate because the rules state that intermediate teams of senior clubs are ineligible. The other two participating clubs in this year's intermediate championship, beaten finalists Carnew and Kiltegan are also from senior clubs. It looks therefore as if the county has no eligible participants. The Wicklow County Board is expected to seek permission for the Junior hurling champions from the county to be allowed to take part instead.
