Football final scheduled for the first Sunday in October
September 19, 2008
The scene is now set for the Wicklow senior football championship final to take place on October 5th between St. Patricks's and Kiltegan with the Wicklow Town side seeking to regain the Miley Cup for the first time since 2006 and the West side aiming to claim their second title, having won the championship in 1986.
Kiltegan were fancied to take the title in that final two years ago but got quite a drubbing on the day and once again Paul Earls will seek to continue putting his mark on the championship as he has done all year and did in 2006. Having overcome Rathnew is such a comprehensive fashion Kiltegan are likely to be in top competitive mode for the final and will approach 5 October with confidence restrained this time around. However the threat of Earls & Co remains and it promises to be an outstanding final.
March officials have yet to be appointed and it is expected that the job of referring the game will rest between the two men who looked after the semi-finals, Ciarán Kenny of Tinahely and Eddie Craul of Kilbride.
