An Tóchar GAA Notes

September 15, 2008
Mixed luck last week on the juvenile side with the under 16 and 18s.  The under 16s travelled to Avondale and conceded a goal in the dying minutes which robbed victory from them.  Then last Saturday the minor side played a splendid game of football against Arklow GB and the sides were level as the final whistle blew.  Then in extra time our lads had better lasting power to snatch victory with a final score of 1-17 to 1-9.  Well done to all the lads on a great performance and good luck in the next round.  The under 10 girls played Arklow last week and were determined not to have a repeat of the ladies final.  This time the An Tóchar side played with great determination and came away with a win of 1-10 to 1-00.  Emer Molloy who captained the side on the night, was in form putting over two early points. Shauna Murtagh and Katie Miley linked well together in mid field, enabling Katie to put away a fine goal in the first half.  Our back line were solid from the off, with Annie Morris and Laoise Cullen, proving a great combination alongside Aishling Murphy in the full back line. There was no way through for the Arklow forwards! Cliona Byrne came on in defence, and despite a knock before half time, Cliona rallied around the defence. This gave Claire Byrne an easy time in goals.  Our forwards, Molly Hayes, Caoimhe Cronin, Emer Molloy, Larah Gorman & Anna Doyle, all played extremely well, with a great tally of scores between them. Caoimhe Cronin put in a huge performance, playing some lovely football and getting some remarkable scores, her last point from a free. In the dying minutes of the game, Katie Miley was still having an impressive game and finished with a fantastic point.  Next match is against Coolkenno at home, no date yet, and these girls deserve your support. Upcoming fixtures; the senior men have league matches on Tuesday 16th against Kiltegan and on 23rd against Baltinglass and both are home games. Junior A team play next Saturday 20th against  Lacken at home at 4:00pm and the under 12s are in the Shield quarter final on Saturday 20th also at 4:00pm.  Please check with Denis Healy the venue for this and your support will be appreciated. Congratulations to Maura Kearns, jimmy and Sue, Jason Dunne and Julia Byrne who all matched three numbers in the club lotto last week.  This weeks jackpot is at .11,200 what a lovely lot to win so do buy a club lotto ticket.
