Valleymount remember their heroes of 1978
September 12, 2008
It is thirty years since Valleymount won the Wicklow Intermediate championship title and Corcoran Cup, all of which happened in the one year and the players and those involved were guests of honour at a wonderful function in the club-house on Saturday night last.
The hall was decked out with memorabilia and press cuttings of the games showing the successful journey to eventual success against Laragh in the final. They beat neighbours Blessington in the Corcoran Cup final. Sadly two of the players involved in the glory, captain Larry Miley and his brother Andy died in their early forties within a short period of one another.
County Chairman Andy O'Brien presented each team member with a small pack that included a team photograph and a football boot trinket as a memento of their win. GAA President in the County Peter Keogh too received a presentation (a granite clock the GAA crest engraved) for the great work that he has done for GAA in West Wicklow.
