Late Murt Nolan was part of the Donard glory days
September 12, 2008
Donard lost another Gael with the death of Murt Nolan late last week, a man who was associated with the club during his playing days in the 1940's and 1950's.
Murt played on the 1948 team that won the Junior championship and he was also on the panel that won the senior title in 1957. He was engaged with the teams at junior, intermediate and senior in those years before emigration cut short his playing career. He spent many years in England working and on retirement returned to this native village along with his wife Hilda.
The time that Murt played for Donard would have been regarded as something of a golden age with the club able to field three teams. Within the ranks of the senior side that time were three Railway Cup players - Gerry O'Reilly, Jim Rogers and Paddy Lennon.
