Model County's 1968 legends facing lengthy bans

Wexford great Tony Doran

Tony Doran is one of three Wexford hurling legends to have had hefty suspensions proposed by the county's disciplinary chiefs.

All three of the 1968 Liam MacCarthy Cup winners are having the book thrown at them for speaking out of turn.

Doran, who is the Model County's second-highest championship scorer ever and was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame, has had a twelve-week ban recommended by the Wexford CCCC arising from an incident during a recent club game.

Alongside his Buffer's Alley clubmate and fellow Wexford icon Mick Butler - both of whom starred on the 1968 All-Ireland winning team - Doran has been cited for verbally abusing referee Barry Redmond at the end of the Alley's one-point SHC win over Ferns St Aidan's.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Ned Buggy, another star of the all-conquering '68 team, has been hit with a six-month ban by the County Management Committee for an incident relating to verbal abuse of a county officer / gateman.
