Preview: SFC qualifier - Derry v Wexford

July 11, 2015

Wexford's Ben Brosnan

There is no danger of Derry taking Wexford for granted in today's Round 2B qualifier in Owenbeg.

The Model County's 2-16 to 2-11 victory over Down last time out made a lot of people, including Derry manager Brian McIver, sit up and take notice.

"They were very impressive against Down," commented McIver whose side was fortunate to grind out a one point victory over the Mourne County in the Ulster SFC.

"Wexford are a very young side, very fit side, very mobile. They have a couple of outstanding players and not just this season - Ciaran Lyng and Ben Brosnan have been excellent footballers down the years."

McIver's Wexford counterpart David Power has made just one change to his starting 15 with goalkeeper Anthony Masterson returning to the team at the expense of Shane Roche.

Defender Michael Furlong is, once again, ruled out with a hamstring injury.

"I'm confident that the players can produce another performance," Power stated.

"We are in with a great fighting chance despite having to travel. A win would be another great boost for Wexford football as we are well aware."
