JFC semi-final v Ballynacargy

Our hopes of lifting the Hugh Daniels Cup are over for another year after last Saturday evening's 0-11 to 2-11 JFC semi-final defeat to Ballynacargy at a rain-soaked TEG Cusack Park.

Despite our players having put in a huge effort all year, it wasnt to be as Bal beat us for a fourth time (three times in the championship and once in the league). This was the closest of the four meetings with second half goals from Declan McGuinness and substitute Jack Penrose proving to be the difference.

It was all-square at half-time (0-5 each) after we had trailed by 0-3 to 0-0 early on. Nigel Scally put in another fine shift for us at midfield, scoring 0-6 (0-4 from frees), and certainly didnt deserve to finish on the losing side. Unfortunately, we lost Brendan Nannery and David Fennell to injury and both are wished a speedy recovery. We also wish Ballynacargy well in the county final against either Multyfarnham or Athlone, and look forward to meeting them again in the Junior Cup final, which has yet to be played.

Team: Shane Keenan; Ciaran Egan, Alan Fennell, Colin Draper; Sean Hanlon, Shaun Pidgeon, Brendan McMahon; Brendan Nannery, Nigel Scally; Aaron McNamee, Dean Fitzgerald, Paul Fennell; James Fox, David Fennell, James Finnegan. Subs used: Mel Kiernan for Nannery (18 min, injured), Jamie Stone for D Fennell (52 min, injured).
