All County Football League Division 1 Seniors - Castledaly 1.11 Tang 1.09
This battling victory was secured with last minute goal by Paul Kelly following up on a well crafted Lorcan Dolan shot.
Castledaly had to battle back from behind throughout this match as Tang provided a well executed and spirited team performance. Ultimately it required a last minute home team goal to secure the win, despite strong performances from David Stone Ken Larkin Kevin Stone Shane Fitzpatrick, and of course PAul Kelly and Lorcan Dolan who both were shouldering a Herculean effort against close marking and physical contested visiting defensive unit from Tang.  In defence there were quality performances from Shane Dolan Paddy Holloway MJ Kelly Derek
Heavin while Castledaly relied on strong midfield marshalling from Alan Stone and Eamon Fleming.   Jordan Nugent was required to perform a few heroics between the posts and could little about the Tang goal.
Castledaly will look at their own missed scoring chances and some lack of concentration in defence as room for improvement before their next
outing. .

ACFL D5 Castledaly 4-12 The Downs 1-10 ..
Goals from Kevin Stone Ken Larkin (2) and Conor Foley delivered the home team win in impressive victory on Friday evening
.
Castledaly opened the encounter with two points from play from David Stone either side of a fine well taken point from Ken Larkin. The Downs sparked into form with a point from play swiftly followed by a goal as the Castledaly defence lost concentration. Castledaly were quick to reply with a goal of their own from the everbright Kevin Stone, as Ken Larkin rose highest to catch and pass to the youngest Stone family sibling. The visitors were struggling against the
rejuvenated home defence with Niall O Neill Shane Dolan Ciaran Henson Mark Kearney and Eamon Fleming in strong form but eventually The Downs added two points. Eamon Fleming added polish to a fine performance
with a high mark catch, and then exchanged passes with Kevin Stone before dispatching his shot across the oppositions crossbar. Kevin
Stone again added two further points, including a fine high ball shot between the uprights to extend his teams lead as half time arrived.
The Downs began the second half in renewed form adding two points from play and two from free kicks as they battled the Castledaly defence for control of the game. With sub Russell Casey on in place of injured
Shane Dolan Castledaly equalised and retrieved the lead with excellent work from Eamon Fleming and Gordon Duffy in midfield securing the upper hand and launching several attacks. Conor Foley received possession from Gordon Duffy and a smart pass to Ken Larkin allowed the strong full forward to blast over the bar and retrieve the home team lead. Paul Henson retrieved possession from the kick out, with a high fielding ball, and exchanged passes with the evergreen Gordon Duffy before Ken Larkin sprinted onto a through ball before swiftly dispatched a smart shot past the custodian before he had chance to cover the angles. Conor Foley was involved moments later as Fleming secured the kick out, and Foley saw Larkin in space to receive a second goal chance which he also expertly converted. Foley also set up David Stone as the young marksman produced a trademark sprint through the visitors defence and add a point from play.
With Castledaly in firm control of the game Conor Foley added a fine left foot point from the 21 yard line on the left side of play, before Eamon Fleming capped a high quality performance with his right foot shot at shorter range in front of the goals. Fleming followed this up with a fantastic score from a narrow angle as Paul Costello found his colleague in space on the right side of the field.
The visitors replied with points from play and a free kick, reducing the deficit to six points but Castledaly replied with a fine goal set up by Eamon Fleming and scored by the sparkling Conor Foley. The Downs added two further points and narrowly missed a goal chance under pressure from Shane Dolan in defence, before Ken Larkin fittingly added the final score of the game. A quality performance from Castledaly again showed quality and potential, with missed chances to
be ironed out on the training field.
