U14's ARE SHIELD CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to Lilliput Gaels U14 footballers who won the Shield Final on Sunday with a convincing 7-07 to 1-07 win over St. Mary's, Rochfortbridge. This was a really impressive display and we dictated proceedings from start to finish to completely overturn the heavy defeat we endured to the same opposition a few months back. We got the perfect start with a Peter Reynolds goal settling the team nicely after David Jackson had opened our account with a point. St. Mary's then scored 1-01 as the play moved quickly up and down the field. A great delivery from Zack Wright to Darragh Seery saw the midfielder carry the ball through the heart of the Rochfortbridge defence and we were rewarded with a second goal to reassert our dominance. We were now on a roll and further points from Conor Murphy, David Jackson and Seery along with a second Darragh Seery goal gave us a deserved 3-06 to 1-03 half time lead, albeit with the wind to face in the second half. Both sides probed early on in the second half but defences were on top and we saw some heroic defending by our lads. We scored the opening point after six minutes before St. Mary's responded with two points of their own. Our lads then turned on the style as we hit our stride with a four goal blitz courtesy of Peter Reynolds (2), Conor Murphy and Tiernan McMahon all the way up from wing half back! These goals knocked the fight out of our opponents and we were able to give all of our substitutes a run in a final that will live long in these lads memories. A delighted captain, Cian Gavigan, accepted the shield to great applause at the end to round off what was a great season for this wonderful panel of players, just rewards for all the hard work they put in all year. We want to give a special mention to Mark Kiernan. Mark has been one of our most reliable players all year and unfortunately missed out on Sundays final due to injury. The lads dug deep and were inspired by Mark in the dressing room and during the warm up and it undoutedly lifted our guys that bit more. We also want to extend our thanks to Franky Wright, Lilliput Adventure Centre and Mark Finnane, Environmental Building Systems, who sponsored training tops, togs and socks for the team in the lead up to the final. Well done to all involved! Team: Peter Dalton, Mark Killian, Ryan Boyne, Cathal Kelly, Tiernan McMahon (1-00), Cody Finnane, Luke Seery, Darragh Seery (2-04), Cian Gavigan, Jack O'Donnell, David Jackson (0-02), Conor Murphy (1-01), Zack Wright, Peter Reynolds (3-00), Warric Kirby. Subs used: David Seery, Adam McGoldrick, Sean Kincaid, Ian Kiernan, Jack Gannon.

ACFL Division 3

Ballinagore 2-09  Milltownpass 0-06

We entertained Milltownpass on Sunday morning in Ballinagore in this league encounter. After our defeat to Moate last weekend, we needed to pick things up again and that is how we started as we played some great football in the opening half to lead 2-05 to 0-04 at the break. We were less impressive in the second half but still had enough in reserve to collect the two points on offer. This win, against the divisions only unbeaten side, leaves us back in the hunt for promotion with two games left to play. Well done to all and best wishes to Niall Kelly who was injured during the game. Team: Cathal Daly, David Slevin, Enda Claffey, Kieran Deegan, Darren Rigney, Michael Ennis, David Keegan, Niall Kelly, Brandon Carey, Frankie Deegan, Cormac Deegan, Paddy Ennis, Tommy McDaniel, James Durkan, Ciaran Carey. Subs used: Cathal Ennis, Enda Kenny, Brian Sheerin, Brendan Heeney, Willy Gavin.
