COMMUNITY MATTERS

The death occurred recently of Nuala Somers nee Whelan, Johannesburg formerly of Shandonagh. Sadly her death coincided with her grandsons Kienan Jordaan rugby tour to Ireland with his Springs High School teammates. They stayed for 3 nights in the Mullingar area with members of the extended family as part of their week long tour to Ireland.  They played MRFC U18's where they ran out winners in a thrilling game with a scoreline of 25 to 22. A minutes silence was held under a clear Mullingar night sky to honour Nuala's memory before kick off, a moment she would have been surely proud of. It was a very enjoyable night and many thanks goes to MRFC, Mr Vukile Mdlalo from the South African Embassy, Mayor John Shaw, Robert Troy TD, Cllr Ken Glynn, Cllr Avril Whitney and Kim from the South African Shop in Mullingar for attending and adding a real sense of occasion. The Boys from SBHS are home now with a lifetime of memories from their trip to Mullingar and their stay in the Ballinea area and its surroundings.  Many thanks goes to their hosts also. A mass will be held for Nuala this Sunday at 10am in Brotenstown to honour her memory.
