Moate All Whites GAA club notes

August 31, 2015

With Moate All Whites quarter final spot in the intermediate championship secured last weekend we has  a free weekend of adult football.  On Thurs evening last our Under 14s played Kilbeggan / St Josephs in the championships in Hogan Park. With the teams having met previously in the league, Moate knew that it would be a tough game.  Both teams started well with Moate more than holding their own in the midfield battle.  Further back the field Rhys Roland was having an excellent game at full back displaying some wonderful fielding.  Our midfield pairing of Thomas Berry and Philip King worked very hard and created some fine scoring chances throughout the game. Luke Gavin also brought a lot to the attack when moved to centre half forward after half time. However the visitors managed to take the lead in the second half and despite our best efforts our lads were unable to claw it back and they ran out winners in the end on a score line of Kilbeggan/St Joseph's 4-12 Moate 3-03.  We travelled to Killucan last Wednesday evening for the final under 12 Westmeath league match. Our lads battled through heavy wind and rain in the first 15 minutes during which Killucan went a few points up.  This game was hard fought and our Moate under 12's were up against a steely Killucan team who put us under pressure in every position and went in 2 points up at the half time break.  Moate in the second half played the best football we have seen in under 12 so far this year. Every player in every position gave more than expected and the team came out on top at the final whistle by a single point.  Finals score 3-7 to 3-6 in Moates favour.  Shannon Gaels 0-12 MAW 2-10.  We travelled to Tubberclair to play the Tubberclair/Tang/Maryland amalgamation in the 2nd round of the championship and with the aid of a stiff breeze we went in at the break up 2-6 to 0-4.The second half was a different story and the lads did hugely well to withstand serious pressure from the home team.  Improvement will be needed if we are to make an impression on the championship this year.  Gordon Kelly, Ciaran Ennis and Aaron O Neill were probably the pick for us on the day.
