Junior Football Championship (Round 1)
St Josephs 1-07 Multyfarnham 2-13
We had our opening championship game in Cusack Park on Saturday 22nd May when playing last years Junior finalist Multyfarnham. Though ending up nine points adrift at the finish, there was plenty of positives to be gained from this match as we were well in contention until the final minutes of this encounter. St Josephs and Multyfarnham have swapped roles in recent seasons as for many years we generally had the upper hand in our encounters but that has changed as Multyfarnham have now the benefit of greater numbers while we have yet to reap the rewards of our underage teams.  In the match, both sides were cagey in the opening stages with scores at 0-1 apiece after the opening five minutes.  Multyfarnham showing their gains in confidence from last season were sharper after the early stages and when they goaled midway through the half it put them 1-4 to 0-1 ahead. We are a plucky lot in St Josephs and the lads gradually got into contention with three successive points and though our opponents hit two more points, the margin of 1-6 to 0-4 wasn't terminal by any way. Indeed we hit the ground running at the start of the second half with points from Niall Moran and Andrew Mc Cormack inside the first two minutes to come within three at 0-6 to 1-6.  Multy had a point in the 5th minute to go four in front before St Josephs hit back once more with a point in the 8th minute.  The game turned Multy's direction in the 10th minute when they grabbed a goal somewhat against the run of play to move 2-7 to 0-7 in front and when they pointed from the next attack it looked bad for St Josephs. However, we roared right back into the game with a well taken goal from Daire Lynam which left the scores at 2-8 to 1-7 with 13 minutes elapsed in the second half. For the next few minutes, we held the upper hand in possession but did not press on. A couple of loose passes at vital times led to points for our opponents at vital times and three late points left a somewhat false margin between the sides at the finish.  There is no rest however as we face Loughnavalley on Friday 29 May in Tang in the second round which is equally as important a game for us.

It is our second successive year to hold a classic and following on from last years great event we are certainly looking forward to this years event. The cost for the event is €120 for a team of four with food provided which is great value for this type of event. For those who intend to take part, tee times will be available all day on Monday 1st June with bookings being taken by Ger Egan whose contact number is 087 4185749. Sponsorship of tee boxes and greens is also being sought with the cost here being €50 per sponsorship.

Lotto €7000:
Our most recent Lotto draw was on Tuesday 19th May in Ryans with the draw being for a jackpot of €6900. The numbers drawn were3,9,19 and 26 and there was no Jackpot winner so it moves on to a terrific €7000 for the next draw. There were three match 3 winners of €35 each and they were Seamus Mc Cormack and Eamon Mc Guinness who had two match threes so well done to both men. Next draw is due for Sunday 31 May in The Beech Tree but with the Bank Holiday weekend, we may not hold the draw until Tuesday 2 June. This to be confirmed later.
