JFC v Milltown

Our JFC campaign got off to a very disappointing start at a drizzly Cusack Park last Saturday evening when we were soundly beaten by Milltown.

Boosted by three first half goals, we held a 3-3 to 1-6 lead early in the second half, but an impressive Milltown team fought back to level by the 43rd minute before taking the game by the scruff of the neck in the final quarter. We could have no complaints about the outcome as Milltown showed the greater hunger and fitness when the game was there to be won.

After conceding two early points, we roared back with goals from Paul Fennell and Keith Gorry to lead 2-0 to 0-3 after 10 minutes. Milltown then scored an unanswered 1-1 before we regained the lead when Fennell grabbed his second goal following a great delivery by Gorry.

Milltown levelled again before James Finnegan fisted our only point of the half to give us a slender 3-1 to 1-6 lead at the break.

We were well on top in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but could only manage a brace of points from Fennell and Gorry. Our wastefulness was punished when Alan Geraghty equalised with Milltown's second goal, 2-6 to 3-3, and they added a further 1-3 without reply over the next seven minutes to surge into a 3-9 to 3-3 lead.

David Fennell converted two frees to close the gap to four, but Milltown finished strongly, with Geraghty helping himself to a late 1-1 to leave it 4-10 to 3-5 at full-time.

Ladies football v Moate

Noel Browne's charges led by 3-5 to 3-4 at half-time and the same margin separated the sides at the final whistle. Kilbeggan's next championship outing will be against Tyrrellspass on a date to be confirmed.
