Southern Gaels Hurling Club Notes

March 23, 2015

Intermediate Challenge
Southern Gaels 0-13    St. Domnic's Knockcroghery.  1-14

This was a highly entertaining game played last Friday in Pairc Chiaráin. The Roscommon side were quickly off the mark and had five points on the board before M.J. Kelly opened the scoring for the Athlone side. Tony O'Keeffe and Seam Kilgarriff added similar scores and the Gaels were now more in the game. However, fro the second quarter the Roscommon side added six more points to Gaels one to lead by 0-11 to 0-4 at half-time. In the second half Gaels were far more committed and tighter in defence. Patrick Flynn and Donal Hurley gave little away and it took St. Domnic's twenty minutes to register a score. In the meantime Gaels scored eight points. Tony O'Keeffe, Darragh Kelly and Ronan Farrell were to the fore. Gaels gave game time to all ten substitutes in the last quarter and St Domnic's came more into the game. They finished strongly with 1-2 to win by a margin of four points. Seamus Hoctor had an impressive debut for the club at wing-back and should be a valuable addition to the team.
