Ballinagore GAA Notes

ACFL Division 4

Ballinagore 2-13  Multyfarnham 2-11
Both sides played a hugely entertaining game that kept the large turnout of supporters on their toes right to the end last Sunday morning in Ballinagore. We expected a stiff challenge from last years Junior finalists and that is exactly what we got. After going in front early on, we conceded a penalty shortly after which gave Multy the lead and they built on it to lead by five points at one stage but a well taken goal by Frankie Deegan and a late point gave us hope as we went in 1-07 to 1-06 behind at the interval. We had the lively breeze to look forward to and we piled on the pressure from the restart. However some of our own shooting was poor on the day while Multy continued to keep their shot return rate high. We never gave up though and Paddy Doody set up Eoin Miller for a lifeline goal ten minutes from time. We missed a penalty when James Durkan was narrowly wide after being taken down himself in the square. Rory Tynan, Cathal Ennis and Tommy McDaniel tagged on nice points while our defence held solid until the end to give us two important points. Well done to all on a gritty performance and it was great to see both James Sheerin and Michael Ennis making a return to action after long term injury. Team: Cathal Daly, Enda Claffey, Michael Ennis, Kieran Deegan, James Sheerin, Ciaran Carey, Paddy Doody, Frankie Deegan, James Durkan, Cathal Ennis, Eoin Miller, Rory Tynan, Paddy Ennis, Tommy McDaniel, Brandon Carey. Subs used: Cormac Quinn, Declan Claffey. Rest of panel: Shane Heraty, Ian Seery, Tommy Kelly, David Slevin, Robert Gannon, James Keegan.

ACFL Division 7
Ballinagore 2-09  St Mary's, Rochfortbridge 4-13
We lost out to a stronger Rochfortbridge outfit in this high scoring encounter played in balmy Ballinagore last Saturday. We started well and dominated large spells of the first half and led by three points to no score after ten minutes play. Mary's came more into it from then and a late goal gave them a narrow 1-04 to 0-05 lead at half time. Our opponents resumed with intent though and they kicked some nice points while we struggled to score at the other end. We lost our way somewhat and some basic errors in a bad ten minute spell midway through the second half gifted them a quickfire 2-06 to our 0-02. However a rasper of a shot from Paddy Ennis cannoned of the crossbar and was easily finished to the net by Enda Kenny. Minutes later, Enda scored his second goal following a good run through the 'Bridge defence. Two well taken points by James Keegan and a final Enda Kenny point ensured a strong finish but the damage had been done earlier. We had some fine performances throughout. Michael Durkan was very assured in goals and pulled off some fine saves. Brendan Heeney, Robert Gannon and Cormac Quinn played well in defence. Enda Kenny put in a great hours work at midfield, ably assisted by Ian Seery and up front Paddy Ennis and Rory Tynan showed up well. It was great to see Ger Linnane back in action for Ballinagore and he made some great contributions at full forward however he might need the left peg re-calibrated after that goal chance in the second half!! Team: Michael Durkan, Robert Gannon, Enda Claffey, David Slevin, Cormac Quinn, Kieran Deegan, Brendan Heeney, Enda Kenny, Ian Seery, Declan Claffey, Rory Tynan, Tommy Kelly, Paddy Ennis, Ger Linnane, Willie Gavin. Subs used: Shane Heraty, James Keegan, Stewart Gavin.
