ACFL Division vi RESULT

Shandonagh 0-9 The Downs 2-9

On Saturday last our Division vi team opened their 2015 league campaign against The Downs. Whilst I  must give credit to the numbers of our lads that made themselves available, it wasn't to be our day. The Downs youthful side imposed and applied themselves throughout the first half and went in ahead on a score line of 1-6 to our 0-3. All of our first half points came from the trusty free taking boot of club veteran and stalwart Roy "of the Rovers" Smyth.

Manager Kevin Hickey made a couple of changes at half time that curbed the Downs onslaught, but try as our boys might they could not just close the gap between the teams. It was good to see Ben Kilmurray make his debut in the Shandonagj colours and make a 2 point contribution to the scoreline. Other 2015 club newbie, Alan Doyle gave a good account of himself from the centre half forward berth and Kenny Rabbitte was tireless in his efforts at centrefield.

Next weekend we play in the All County Football League Division ii against Rochfortbidge on Sunday in the 'bridge. Throw in is scheduled for 11.30am. Team management have arranged a Challenge game to be held on Tuesday evening. All players have received a text at this stage. Training continues on Friday night as usual.
