Daly to miss rest of league

Westmeath's Darragh Daly

Westmeath's hopes of retaining their Allianz Football League Division 2 status have been dealt a blow with the news that Darragh Daly will miss their remaining games against Cavan and Roscommon.

The towering Mullingar Shamrocks clubman, who has returned to the panel this year after a spell in Australia, tore his hamstring in the third minute of last Sunday's heavy loss to Down and has been ruled out for six weeks.

With key defenders Kieran Gavin and James Dolan also currently on the injured list, the Lake County's resources are being fully stretched as they battle a second successive relegation.

On the plus side, midfielder David Duffy - who has missed the entire league campaign to date - is close to regaining full fitness and should see action against the Breffnimen next weekend.
