ACL DIVISION 5
St Lomans began their Division 5 campaign with a draw against Athlone in Lakepoint Park on Friday night last. This was a game that could have gone either way with both sides having chances to win it.
Athlone raced into an early lead with two points but St Lomans responded in perfect fashion and points from Niall Mc Gurran and Cormac Corroon(3) gave them the lead. The visitors dominated the second quarter and registered a goal and five points but a great finish by Michael Gleeson raised the green flag to leave St Lomans trailing by four points at the break.
St Lomans upped their game in the second half and reduced the margin with points from Gerry Farrell and Joseph Doherty(2) with one of Doherty's points a wonderful kick from distance. Both sides traded scores before a clinical period from St Lomans gave them a three point lead thanks to scores from Niall Mc Gurran, Joe Doherty(2), James Cox and Cormac Corroon. Athlone battled hard in the closing stages and added three points that saw the sides level at the final whistle.
