Westmeath manager Michael Ryan believes that he has got all he wanted from the Walsh Cup as attention turns towards the league opener against London.

Ryan and his selectors have used the early season competition to run the rule over a number of new players and the Waterford native is delighted to have unearthed some new talent.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, he revealed that promotion from Division 2A was their main priority for the year.

"Firstly, we have unearthed a few players for the league and secondly, we have improved the players. We said from day one that the big game is London in four weeks' time," said Ryan.

"Division 2A is our division and we have to try and get out of that. We have a challenge next week against NUIG and then we'll probably try and arrange another few matches. The London champions beat the Kilkenny intermediate champions. So hurling in London is quite good. We'll be approaching that game with all guns blazing."
