Senior B Final

On Sunday morning last 16th November our Senior B lads took on The Downs in the county final in Drumraney. This was our 2nd appearance in the final in the past 4 years. The conditions on the day were heavy underfoot which made it difficult for a fast flowing game.

We had the majority of the chances in the early stages but we struggled to convert them. Our lads were on top in midfield with Anthony and Kenny dominating the opposition with help from Davy Reynolds and Stephen Martin. David Martin was unlucky to see his goal effort go narrowly wide. It was David Martin who broke the deadlock after some hard work by Enda Kincaid to get the ball in. Enda was again involved in our second score, playing the ball into David and in turn laying off to Keith who finished neatly over the bar. Tom Browne got our third score with a well taken point from far out on the left. We finished off the first half with a free from David Martin to put us leading at half time by 4 to 1. This wasn't our best football and our lads knew they had loads of football left to play.

We started off the second half at a fast pace with scores from Keith after 30 seconds and Enda tapped over another a minute later. This put us firmly in front and we put our stamp on the game. The Downs got their purple patch but our defence stood strong and held them out. We managed to tag on a few more scores through Keith, David Martin with 2 points and a long distance effort from Davy Reynolds. The Downs got 2 points in a row and seemed to be coming back into the game when they had a goal chance which was brilliantly saved by Lee who had his angles covered very well. This gave our lads a lift again with Damien Reynolds scoring from distance again after a well worked 45 from David Martin. Kieran Egan was very unlucky to see his effort roll wide after some great work. We finished with a great piece of work from Keith Malynn who fielded brilliantly over his marker and tapped over the bar. The Downs got the last score of the game with a well taken point but this still left us winning well with a final score line of Maryland 0-13 The Downs 0-4. This was a solid performance with every player playing their part in the game, our defence stood strong and held out The Downs very well and this allowed a strong base for our forwards to be able to keep knocking over the scores. This was a great win for our lads and a fantastic way to end our 2014 season with an empathic win. Well done to Management Team of Andreas Dolan, Bill Smyth and Kieran Martin and to all who helped out with the lads.
