Doon club notes

October 01, 2014

Intermediate Championship Doon 0-06 Raheen 2-16 Doon's championship hopes came crashing to a disappointing conclusion on Saturday last virtue of a heavy defeat to Raheen. Doon entered the encounter with genuine expectations of reaching the Intermediate final but on the day, they had no answer to a Raheen side combining a high level of fitness, some excellent individual performances in addition to a well-executed tactical plan which saw them totally shut out the Doon attack. Played in near-perfect conditions in O'Connor Park, only Donie Ryan and William Healy came through with their reputations intact from a contest where Doon were outplayed in almost every sector of the field. It was a year that certainly produced many roller-coaster moments from the highs of performances against Tullamore, Shamrocks, Durrow and Shannonbridge to the lows against Kilclonfert and obviously Raheen. Nonetheless, Doon can look back with the solace of gaining promotion to the Senior B status for 2015 and probably more importantly, a noteworthy increase in spirit and pride in the Doon jersey.
