Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club notes

September 16, 2014

Senior hurling championship
Lough Lene Gaels' interest in this year's Slevin's Coaches SHC came to an end on Sunday last, as a depleted Raharney side left Cusack Park with a 1-13 to 0-11 win.
Some fine scores from Derek McNicholas, Dan Carty and Noel Conaty contributed to a decent first half, at the end of which we trailed by just two points (1-6 to 0-7).
But Raharney kept the upperhand after the restart, and close out the game - and a disappointing campaign for the Gaels - firmly on top.
Team: Brian Conaty; Derek Healy, Tommy Doyle, Seamus Carroll; Stephen Bardon, Brendan Doyle, Micheal Daly; John Egan, Noel Conaty (0-2); Derek McNicholas (0-4), James Boyle, Fergal Moran; Dan Carty (0-5f), Mark McNicholas, Daragh McCormack. Subs: Warren Williams for Moran (43), Daragh Qamar for Egan (53).

Junior final
A chance to recover from our disappointing SHC exit presents itself this Sunday (1pm), when we take on Clonkill in the junior 'A' decider. We hope to see as many supporters as possible out for this one.

U8 blitz
Last Saturday morning Lough Lene Gaels hosted the final round of the U8 Hurling Blitz in Collinstown. With glorious weather the stage was set for some very decent games.
Clubs that attended were Delvin, Turin, Wolfe Tones, Castlepollard, Crookedwood and Lough Lene Gaels. With up on 90 players on the pitch at one stage smooth running of the event was essential.
Even with some notable absentees from the Lough Lene Gaels squad, we were able to field both an U8 team with 9 players and an U6 team with 7 players.
The U8 squad played two games, one against Turin followed by a second one against Crookedwood. With plans for a third round for all teams, it became clear that the warm morning had taken its toll on players and spectators alike and it was felt better to retire for refreshments.
The U6 squad also played two games, one against Castlepollard followed by a second one against Delvin.
Thanks to Daybreak, Collinstown for sponsoring refreshments after the event for all teams and players. Take a look on Facebook for some pictures taken on the day.
