Under 14 Girls Championship Final:

St Loman’s Mullingar 4-04 Coralstown Kinnegad 4-10

Despite a monumental effort our under 14 girls could not overcome Coralstown Kinnegad in Caulry last Saturday. Kinnegad opened the scoring but the Blues replied with points from Caoimhe Kilmurray and Aoibhe Hogan. Kinnegad replied with two more scores to give them a slender advantage with Emer Fogarty and Anna Speller on target. Rachel McKenna’s superb curled effort then brought the teams level. Terese Murray’s point put Corlastown Kinnegad ahead but Meabh O’Hara’s brilliant gaol following a blistering run from Caoimhe Kilmurray. Kinnegad replied with a point of their own which left Loman’s a point to the good at the break.

As the Second half got underway Kinnegad levelled the scores with an early point. Then Paige Matthews long-free hit the crossbar only for Meabh O’Hara to react quickest and she made no mistake, burying the ball into the back of the net. However Kinnegad then took control of the match scoring 3-4 in quick succession, with many of their stronger and more physical players taking control of the game. The Saints did reply with a brilliantly taken gaol from the poacher Meabh O’Hara to give the Blues late hope. However Faith Okafor but the match beyond doubt with a late goal. Substitute Lucia Weir marked her introduction after a brilliant catch and wondrous strike for Loman’s fourth goal. Alysha Brown got the final score of the match to leave the final score at 4-4 to 4-10.

The score line doesn’t reflect how close the game was however, with our girls on top for three quarters of the match. There was brilliant individual performances from Alysha Brown who covered every blade of grass on the pitch, and Meabh O’Hara who is phenomenally clinical in front of goal. Sophie Boyd in gaols also made some terrific saves throughout. There is no doubt these girls will compete for more titles in the future Hard luck girls it was a brilliant effort from every single player , you’ve done your club proud! Well done also to Ted Cronin, Enda Matthews, Pat McCartan and Paul McGann for devoting their time to the girls throughout the year. Finally congratulations to Coralstown Kinnegad n securing another county title.
