Kerry hurlers look set to have to plan without centre back Jason Diggins for the remainder of the Joe McDonagh Cup.

Following a weekend break, Kerry are back in action this Saturday when they take on Westmeath at Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Diggins missed the defeat to Antrim in the opening round and the Kerryman now reports that the Causeway clubman will miss the rest of the campaign.

However, it does not state as to why Diggins is unavailable but he does join Daithi Griffin, Brandon Barrett and Fionnán Mackessy on the absentee list.

Kerry manager Fintan O’Connor revealed that Diggins was unlikely to feature again this year, but added that Paud Costello may see some game time against the Lake County.

“I’m hoping Paud would be able to play some part this weekend,” said Diggins. “Jason won’t be playing, definitely this weekend and I’d say we’d be very lucky to have him for any of the games to be honest.”
