U14 Football League

Lilliput Gaels 5-04  Shandonagh 2-07

Our U14 footballers maintained their unbeaten run in the league last Thursday evening when the defeated Shandonagh in Ballinagore. This was a top of the table clash between the only unbeaten sides in the division so it was going to take a good performance to win. The confidence our lads are playing with at the moment certainly helped us to victory over a battling Shandonagh outfit. We have one game left against The Downs. Well done lads! Panel: Andrew Dalton, Oisin Kiernan, Sean Jackson, Eoin Robinson, Dylan Franzoni, Killian Jackson, David Costello, Jack Gannon, Peter Murphy, Shane Corcora, Jack Mulligan, Adam Clarke, Adam Cassidy, Christian Dowling, Philip Reynolds. Subs: Sean Macken, Luke Robinson, Ronan McClavin, Jack Maloney, Morgan Redmond, Shane King, Evan Dalton, Patrick Maloney.

Rounders Championship

We played the fourth and fifth rounds of the championship last Sunday afternoon in Ballinagore in glorious weather. Clonaslee (Laois) were the opposition in the opening game and after two innings it was the visitors who led by eight runs to two. Much like the previous round against Adamstown, Ballinagore hit a purple patch in the third innings, scoring ten runs and holding Clonaslee to just two. This left the score at 12-10 in favour of Ballinagore and we were hopeful of maintaining that lead with two innings remaining. Our form deserted us again however and we only scored one further run in the match, while Clonaslee scored four to overtake us and to take the victory on a scoreline of Clonaslee 14, Ballinagore 13. Team vs Clonaslee: Shane Heraty (Catcher), Declan Claffey (Pitcher, 3 Runs), Aisling Heraty (1st Base, 2 Runs), Martin Furey capt. (Short Stop/2nd Base, 1 Run), Dympna Claffey (3rd Base, 2 Runs), Kevin Glennon (Left Outfield, 3 Runs), David Langan (Centre Outfield, 2 Runs), Michelle O'Sullivan (2nd Base, 1 Run). Referee: Darryl Dolan

Our second match was against Na Fianna (Dublin) and this was a much more fruitful affair for Ballinagore. We took a commanding lead from the start and apart from a mini revival from Na Fianna in the fourth innings where they scored eleven runs, the result was never in doubt and Ballinagore ran out handsome winners on a scoreline of Ballinagore 43, Na Fianna 21. A notable mention from the above game here for David Langan who scored two home runs. This is something you don't see everyday in Rounders and shows just one of the reasons why David is a former All Star. Team vs Na Fianna: Shane Heraty (Catcher, 8 Runs), Declan Claffey (Pitcher, 6 Runs), Aisling Heraty (1st Base, 2 Runs), Martin Furey capt. (Short Stop/2nd Base, 5 Runs), Dympna Claffey (3rd Base, 2 Runs), Kevin Glennon (Left Outfield, 5 Runs), David Langan (Centre Outfield, 9 Runs), Michelle O'Sullivan (2nd Base, 6 Runs). Sub: Edward Elliffe. Referee: Darryl Dolan.

Tidy Towns Time Again

A gentle reminder for all the community to be vigilant on the appearance of our beautiful village, as judging is starting from 1st June. Any flower additions to homes around the village would be greatly appreciated.  Ballinagore Village came 4th last year in our category, which was a huge achievement and we would like to thank everyone for their help in achieving this. Ballinagore Tidy Towns Committee are doing "clean up" evenings on Wednesday 22nd and Wednesday 29th of May in the lead up to the competition commencing.  The committee would really appreciate any help members from the community could give. A half hour of your time can do a lot for the appearance of the village when we all work together. Meeting at The Bodhran Bar Car Park at 7.30pm on Wednesday 22nd and Wednesday 29th, and we are looking forward to seeing you there.

Fleadh Cheoil

The Westmeath County Final Fleadh Cheoil took place on Saturday 18th of May in The Castlepollard Hotel.  Ballinagore were represented in both the Ladies Set and Mixed Set.  The Ladies Set was the first out of our two groups to take to the floor and they hit the ground running with their performance of The Moate Set.  With some of the ladies never dancing before joining the group a couple of months ago, their hard work paid off as they had tough competition in this category and they brought home 1st place. The mixed group also danced The Moate Set and their experience in dancing was evident from the second they took to the floor. They also came 1st and brought home gold medals for this category.

Ladies Set: Cathy Kirby, Tally Claffey, Nicola Finn, Aisling Joyce, Majella Rigney, Bridget O'Brien, Sinéad Linnane and Cathy Ennis.

Mixed Set: Finian O'Brien, Aisling Heraty O'Brien, Oliver Reynolds, Eileen Roche, Rory O'Brien, Bridget O'Brien, Enda O'Brien and Cathy Ennis. Our two groups are now looking forward to July where they travel to Oldcastle to represent Ballinagore and Westmeath in the Leinster campaign of the Fleadh Cheoil and we wish them the best of luck. Special thanks to our Mentor Shane Heraty who makes it all happen.  Without Shane's knowledge, time, effort and commitment we wouldn't be celebrating the success that has been achieved. Congratulations also to all our young club members who represented Castletown CCE on Sunday with many of them qualifying for the Leinster final also.

Sympathy

The club extends it's deepest sympathy to Eamonn Hegarty, Raheenmore and family on the death of Eamonn's sister, Anne Clarke from Rhode. May she Rest in Peace.

Holy Communion

We send our congratulations to all the local pupils of Ballinagore NS and all our Lilliput Gaels players who celebrated their communion at the weekend. We hope you enjoyed your day.
