Southern Gaels Club Notes

Gaels Parade Westmeath Cup

Ain’t no party like an SG Party and this was on show for all to see at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade last Saturday. And what made this extra special for the Gaels was they got the chance to march with the Division 2A Cup won just last Sunday in Ennis by our Westmeath senior hurlers in an historic game against Kerry. There was a great turnout, as there always is, from players, parents and mentors for the parade and the club colours were by far the brightest and best on what was a dreary enough day with wind and rain to contend with. Special thanks goes again to Jason Bradley who drove the great float put together by Frank Lee, Martin Geary and numerous other Gaels. Adding to the Gaels display was a huge blow-up Whale which was suitably decked out in the maroon and gold of the club. Calls to rename the club Southern Whales were rejected unanimously. Another great day for a great club and thanks to all who made it so.

Gaels on Display in Town Centre

As part of our annual registration and recruitment programme Southern Gaels will be on display in the Town Centre next Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm. Players and parents can call in to register for the up-coming season and have a chat about our forthcoming glories and plans. Future players and parents can check out what the club offers, and it is hoped to further swell our ranks in the near future as the league fixtures start to kick off for all levels. Looking forward to seeing you all there and please wear your Southern Gaels gear in to add to the fun. Anyone turning up in club gear will be entered into a draw with a chance to win a sliotar or a hurley.

Training Continues Next Week

With the weather still inclement indoor hurling will continue for the foreseeable future in the Marist Hall for U6s and U8s on Tuesday from 6.30-7.30pm - helmets and hurleys provided, all welcome. U10s and U12s will continue with the Stay Healthy, Stay Hurling programme for the coming Sundays at the Regional Sports Centre from 5-6pm. U14s and U16s are the only teams back to full pitch training every Tuesday and Friday 6.30-7.30pm as their leagues have started at this stage. Gaels Abú!
